Simple Ways to Boost Your Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is not just relevant when you’re trying to sell your house. Sure, excellent curb appeal attracts potential buyers, but it also welcomes visitors and sets the stage for what they can expect inside. It’s like the cover of a book or an album cover – it gives you a little taste of what’s to come.

Whether you are looking to sell your house or just make improvements for your own satisfaction, here are the most simple, effective ways to give your house an extreme home makeover.

Power Wash Away

One of the easiest and most effective places to start is power washing the entire exterior of your house. Not only is it incredibly satisfying to wash away years of grime and dirt buildup, but it will also instantly give your home a fresh, updated look.

If you don’t own a power washer, you can easily rent one, or pay a local service to come and do it for you!

Seeing Green

Another easy and rather inexpensive way to boost your curb appeal is to plant, well – plants! You could plant a tree in the front yard or place potted plants along your porch or walkway to revitalize your house’s appearance. You could also install flower boxes along your windows or porch railings for a fresh pop of color! Flower boxes can be purchased at a low cost or DIY’d in an afternoon. They will dramatically increase the vibrancy of your house and catch anyone’s eye!

Paint Your Front Door for instant curb appeal

Giving your front door a fresh coat of paint can definitely add some brightness as well. You can pick a similar color to the original one, or go for a more bold choice that makes your house stand out. Just be sure to complement the rest of the colors on your house!

Add Curtains to Your…Porch?

A unique and elegant way to add appeal to the exterior of your home is to accent your porch with curtains. Not only does this create a dramatic look, but it also transforms your front porch into a private hideaway in seconds. Consider it an extension of your house’s interior, welcoming guests into a warm environment from the first moment they step onto your property.

Upgrade Old Hardware and Railings

The little details can make a big difference. Overhead light fixtures, the lockset on the front door, a wall-mounted mailbox, and house numbers all are materials that can add an exciting style to your home’s appearance. To make the most of these components, make sure they all match and complement each other rather than randomly choosing different colors and styles.

Porch railings are another element that can boost a home’s curb appeal. If your current railings have fallen into disrepair or are just a little outdated, find good-quality metal or wood materials to replace them.

Update Your Mailbox

New mailboxes can be purchased for as low as $20 but can make a huge difference in your home’s aesthetic. An old mailbox in front of an updated front porch can send a conflicting message to neighbors and potential buyers! Just be sure that you follow your city’s regulations and guidelines when choosing your new mailbox.

Paint or Tile Your Doorstep

Rather than replacing a ratty welcome mat every few years, why not make a permanent one? You can paint a design on your front stoop or lay tile with a unique design. Pick a design or color that contrasts the rest of the porch floor to really make it pop! Your guests will be highly impressed with your creative skills, much more than a fancy welcome mat!
